The Song:

Filling dancefloors with his frenetic and fun-loving rap singles, Philly’s Sturdyyoungin can slide on any beat. The 19-year-old rapper stakes his claim on 2025, announcing his debut EP, Rookie Of The Year. The upcoming EP positions the young rapper as one of the leaders of Philly’s busy dance rap scene, putting his signature stamp on sample-heavy instrumentals and keeping the energy high. Rookie Of The Year is home to Sturdy’s Fergie-sampling viral hit “Trippin'” ft. Ohthatsmizz & ZeddyWill, the “Choppa Style”-sampling “Respectfully,” and recent single “Speed It Up” ft. Ohthatsmizz, the 11-track Rookie Of The Year EP arrives on June 4th via broke / Hallwood Records / Go Crazy Productions.

Along with the announcement of the EP, Sturdy shares “Bottle Wars,” a new single from the project. Layering marching band-style horns and apocalyptic vocal samples over insistent Philly 808s, “Bottle Wars” is a club anthem, calling on all club denizens to slide onto the dancefloor. Sturdy remains calm as he methodically dresses down his rivals, who have no chance of winning a “bottle war” with him and his crew: “What they got a lil Don over there?/We got every bottle and the Don over here/Why they even gotta sign over there, they got one bottle we got plus five over here,” he taunts.

Sturdy spent the early part of 2025 making his Rookie Of The Year case with viral moments and earworm hits. In February, Sturdy, his close friend and frequent rhyme partner Ohthatsmizz, and NYC rapper ZeddyWill connected for “Trippin’,” a joyful anthem that sampled Fergie‘s 2007 hit “Clumsy.” The song arrived with a music video that featured a cameo appearance from Fergie herself, earning attention from Billboard and racking up over 7.6 million views on YouTube. With over 23.5 million streams across platforms, “Trippin” was adopted by members of the Philadelphia Eagles as an anthem during their playoff run and eventual Super Bowl win–Sturdy and Mizz went to New Orleans to watch the Birds win and party with their fellow fans.

Sturdyyoungin started his run of viral hits with his appearance on Ohthatsmizz’s “BUMBAA,” a kinetic party anthem that went viral on TikTok (634k creations) and YouTube (5+ million views on the static image audio and music video combined), catching the attention of notables like Jayda Wayda and LaLa Anthony, among others. Sturdy and Mizz used the song to show off their performance skills with memorable appearances on In The Cut (5 million views) and On The Radar, and started a viral “open verse challenge” for the song, receiving thousands of videos in response. “BUMBAA” has racked up more than 24.2 million streams to date. In April, Sturdy appeared alongside Mizz, Cash CobainJenn Carter, and Bay Swag on the “BUMBAA REMIX.”

With “Trippin” and “BUMBAA” still on the rise, Sturdyyoungin is ready to rise to the top and take his city with him. Stay tuned for Rookie Of The Year EP, Sturdy’s first salvo in his promising career.

The Background:

A popular figure in Philadelphia since high school, Sturdyyoungin built a following on social media by starting dance challenges to Philly club rap bangers, rocking freestyles, and just by being himself. While he first gained fame as a content creator, Sturdyyoungin pursued his music dream, making his own music on Bandlab and eventually joining up with legendary Philly dance rap crew 2Humpy, which also featured luminaries like 2RareBril, and frequent rap partner Ohthatsmizz. After 2Humpy broke up, Sturdy started to make waves on his own, and often teamed up with Ohthatsmizz to release red hot singles like “How It Goes” (also featuring Bril), racking up over 1.3 million streams on Spotify.
