With Guest Appearances From Hunxho, Tee Grizzley, and Peezy, 700 Reasons Revives The Sounds of the Dirty South and Imagines a Bright Future for Dallas Hip-Hop

The Announcement:

Rhyming with an authoritative drawl, Montana 700 imbues his music with a deep reverence for his forebears in Texas and the rest of the Dirty South. Coming through with a brand new set of inspirational money-getting anthems, the 25-year-old Dallas native shares 700 Reasons, his new mixtape. Featuring guest appearances from BigXThaPlugTee GrizzleyHunxhoPeezy, and Montana’s frequent collaborator Zillionaire Doe700 Reasons is avaialble everywhere via Remain Solid / 300 Entertainment.

Lifted by Montana’s buoyant charisma and contagious plug talk, 700 Reasons is a thrilling mix of old and new, harkening back to the heyday of the Dirty South, when labels like Cash Money, No Limit, and Grand Hustle ran the streets and the charts. The tape is home to Montana 700’s local hit and “Count A Hunnit,” featuring a sample of Jeezy’s “And Then What,” which earned positive attention from Jeezy himself, and features the new highlight “Million Dollar Run,” featuring Detroit’s Peezy, which flips Mannie Fresh’s iconic instrumental for Big Tymers’ “Still Fly.” Crafted with help from producers like Chopsquad DJ, ZiggyMadeIt, and Fuelz, who produced the recent single “Brinks Truck,” the tape reverberates with that classic trap bounce, with rippling pianos, rubbery 808s, and invigorating horn charts. Montana uses these sounds to set the scene for his tales from the grind, as he attempts to escape the trenches and motivate others to do the same.

Along with the album, Montana shares the video for “Pipeline (Remix),” a new version of his local hit, featuring a guest spot from fellow Dallas heavy-hitter BigXThaPlug. Originally released last summer, “Pipeline” became a major local hit in Texas, racking up millions of streams and prompted his fans to give him the nickname, “Mr. Pipeline.” Skating atop bouncing keyboards and a menacing horn line, Montana raps about working harder and smarter to supply his city: “I supply the whole city, I’m the pipeline/Get a thousand to your door at the right time/Plug hoppin’, made a name, I’m the one supplyin’/Get a hundred right now and won’t spend a dime,” he rhymes. BigXThaPlug is an ideal guest for the remix, as he applies his thunderous baritone to talk shop and crack jokes: “I done spent thousands on these shirts and I don’t even keep ’em on.” The video, premiering later today on Montana 700’s YouTube, is a showcase for Dallas’s emerging rap scene, as Montana, X, and a dozen of their close friends, including Montana’s frequent collaborator Zillionaire Doe, count cash by the trunkful.

Born and raised in South Dallas, Montana 700 is ready to make 2025 his year. He first hit the scene in 2022, making music that combined the twangy and bass-heavy Dallas rap template with broader Southern rap sounds. Along with his close friend and frequent collaborator Zillionaire Doe, Montana 700 is a leader of the New Dallas movement, an effort from the younger generation to stop the violence that has plagued Dallas hip-hop for years, and instead to build a community-focused scene that will allow the whole city to prosper.

With 700 Reasons, Montana 700 aims to elevate his career and his city in the same motion. Stay tuned for more.
