2023 GRAMMY Award Nominee: Songwriter of the Year, Non Classical
“…One of today’s most sought-after songwriters in music.” – ABC News
“…The singer-songwriter fuses the confident swagger of rap with modern R&B, priming herself for a takeover of the music industry.” – Teen Vogue
“Nija effortlessly blends R&B and hip-hop drill beats for songs that emphasize a woman’s control in love while slyly hinting at her soon-to-be undeniable impact in the music world as both an artist and songwriter.” – UPROXX
The Song:
A force in the music industry since her teenaged years, Nija is ready to come into her own as an R&B auteur. The multi-Grammy-nominated artist, songwriter, and producer gives her fans a glimpse of her true self with “Unruly,” her new single. Bringing volleys of subsonic bass, icy synths, and skittering bass, Jersey’s Finest multi-talent puts her stamp on a trending Tri-State sound, flipping the script on sexy drill with lyrics about her own irrefutable baddie status. Stretching syllables and layering her vocals, Nija shrugs off her emotional pain and proclaims herself a one-of-one woman: “Face card don’t decline, I’m on credit,” she sings.
“Unruly” is Nija’s first new single since the release of Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn You, her 2022 debut album. Praised by the likes of Teen Vogue, REVOLT and UPROXX, the album was a glimmering example of her all around talent. Ever the faithful Jersey girl, Nija followed the album by enlisting DJ Flex to make a Jersey Club remix of the album.
Nija has established herself as one of the most consistent hitmakers of her generation. She first garnered notice as a teenager, when one of her songs earned a placement on EVERYTHING IS LOVE, by Jay-Z and Beyoncé as The Carters. Nija continued to work closely with Beyoncé in 2019, appearing on Bey’s The Lion King: The Gift album, writing on “Water” and appearing on “My Power.” Nija was instrumental in the career of Summer Walker, writing her breakout hit “Come Thru” ft. Usher, and scored her first number one hit in 2020 with “Rain On Me,” performed by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, and repeated the feat later that year with Ariana Grande’s “Positions.” It would be easier to list A-Listers with whom she hasn’t worked, as her list of collaborators includes Megan Thee Stallion, 21 Savage, Young Thug, WizKid, Kehlani, Maroon 5, H.E.R., Lil Durk, Calvin Harris, and many more. The 26-year-old talent built a huge audience on TIkTok, where she shares the secrets of songwriting with her 471k followers.
Now independent and ready to make her own wave, Nija aims to start a new chapter of her career at the place where it all started. Stay tuned for more from Jersey’s Finest.
