Continuing a 55-Year Tradition, the Québec Summer Festival Rages On With Performances From Major Artists of All Genres
The Festival’s Weekday Shows Shined a Spotlight on International Stars Including Post Malone, J Balvin, Zac Brown Band, Mötley Crüe, and More
THE RECAP:
With its array of A-list talent and close-knit community atmosphere, Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ) is unlike the usual music festival. Nestled on a hill beside the mighty St. Lawrence River, Québec City’s famed Plains of Abraham transforms from a historic battle site to a center of celebration, as tens of thousands of fans from across Canada and beyond come together to watch epic performances from some of the world’s biggest acts of all genres.
The second half FEQ 2024 was a diverse showcase of artists of all genres, from country to rock to Latin and more. Keeping the energy high after a successful first week, FEQ impressed with an EDM-focused night on Wednesday, which featured a headlining performance from DJ Alan Walkerand duo Loud Luxury. Thursday was an exciting day for country fans who enjoyed performances from Zac Brown Band, singer songwriter Charley Crockett, and the UK’s Ben Howard.
The weekend kicked off with a high energy performance from Post Malone on Friday night who’s set was as diverse as the festival’s lineup, playing everything from his rap hits to new country anthems. Kansas and Jessie Murph also played standout sets on Friday, getting the energy on point for Posty. On Saturday, FEQ transformed into a Latin paradise, with sets from headliner J Balvin and Ivan Cornejo. Sunday concluded with a massive performance from the iconic heavy metal band Mötley Crüe, who stirred the 90k-strong crowd with their chart-topping anthems.
Beyond the main acts, FEQ boasted an eclectic array of some of the best acts in Canada or anywhere else. Toronto’s Blue Rodeo electrified the Loto-Québec stage on Saturday, while early 2000’s favorites All Time Low lit up the stage on Wednesday. The SiriusXM stage also gave fans an opportunity to discover local talent like Montreal’s Martha Wainwright and folk group Les Sœurs Boulay.
Louis Bellavance, VP of Content and Artistic Direction at BLEUFEU, emphasizes the importance of the musical diversity offered: “We believe that, more than ever this year, each show found its audience. True to our tradition, we aimed to offer festival-goers a complete musical spectrum. In addition, we take pride in having prominently featured local artists, especially at the Crave Stage and the Hydro-Québec Stage, both of which were free. This underscores our commitment to the Quebec music scene and emerging talents across the board,” he notes.
