Target x AFROPUNK – Black Beyond Measure
AFROPUNK announces a renewed partnership with Target, bringing Target’s Black Beyond Measure campaign and broader commitment to Black joy to Planet AFROPUNK Live: Minneapolis on Juneteenth weekend. AFROPUNK seeks to promote Black-owned businesses, empower entrepreneurs, and help all community members understand their own worth. AFROPUNK and Target will partner in furtherance of that goal through Black Beyond Measure by forging deeper, more meaningful connections with Black guests in more moments that matter.
Target will collaborate with AFROPUNK on a one of a kind, unique, creative and spectacular weekend of celebration through live art tributes, food celebrations and music in Minneapolis. On Saturday, June 18th, Target and AFROPUNK connect with The Get Down Coffee Co. to curate a day of conversations, workshops and programs about issues central to the local community. On Sunday, June 19th, during a celebratory day of music, Target presents the “Black Beyond Measure Stage,” which will center and elevate the diverse talents, faces, bodies, and styles of the AFROPUNK audience and highlight the wealth of strength, influence and beauty for the Black community to celebrate blackness and reclaim joy.
Anita Asante, Head of Global Strategic Partnerships at AFROPUNK, states “The best partnerships aren’t dependent on a mere common goal but one of a shared path of equality, representation, and no small amount of passion, and we have found that in our longstanding partnership with Target. What unites Target and AFROPUNK are a shared set of values and we are thrilled to be able to continue to build upon our strong foundation for the fourth year running. This year, for the first time ever, we jointly descend upon Minneapolis for Juneteenth as we celebrate the joy of blackness and our mission with Target is simple — to continually foster community, celebrate culture and support Black-owned businesses, creators and the community at large. We look forward to further extending Target’s Black Beyond Measure narrative and reaching our community in new, enlightening and powerful ways”.

Planet AFROPUNK Live: Minneapolis is only the latest community-facing collaboration between AFROPUNK and Target. In 2019, the two brands celebrated Black founders and their success at the Hair & Beauty Village at AFROPUNK Brooklyn Festival. Target hosted Ideaville at Planet AFROPUNK during a virtual event in 2020, and in 2021, Target hosted the “UNCONTAINED Stage” at AFROPUNK ATLANTA, welcoming artists like Tems, Rico Nasty, and more to perform.
Planet AFROPUNK Live: Minneapolis
Planet AFROPUNK Live: Minneapolis is the first-ever AFROPUNK live experience in the midwest. With a lineup of performers that includes Ari Lennox, Noname, Mereba, Dreamer Isioma, Pink Siifu, and some of the best rising acts in the Twin Cities, Planet AFROPUNK Live: Minneapolis happens on June 18th-19th, with panels/events across the city on June 18th and performances on June 19th in Sheridan Memorial Park.
In conjunction with the live experience, AFROPUNK partners with High School For Recording Arts, a local high school often called “Hip Hop High,” which was founded by former Prince band member David T.C. Ellis, specializing in developing the next generation of musical talent.
As AFROPUNK prepares for a celebration of black joy and community in Minneapolis on June 18th and 19th, we are partnering with impactful local organizations by donating tickets for community members in the Twin Cities to attend Planet AFROPUNK Live: Minneapolis. This community partnership allows us to unite and share in the joy of AFROPUNK and ensures that as many people as possible can attend our celebration of the joy and creativity of the Black diaspora. The invaluable work of these organizations deserve to be celebrated and AFROPUNK wants to shine a light on their contribution to the people of Minneapolis.

A New Era of AFROPUNK Live Events
Planet AFROPUNK Live: Minneapolis continues a new era of AFROPUNK live experiences, allowing for all elements of a local culture to be expressed freely and fully. AFROPUNK announced earlier this year its plans to expand its live footprint, and the Minneapolis Live Experience follows in the wake of May’s Planet AFROPUNK Live: Miami, which brought performances from musicians like Skillbeng, Stonebwoy, and Mavado, alongside panels, activations, food, and more.
