Bohan Phoenix was born in a Chinaʼs Hubei province and immigrated to the US at 11, unable to speak a word of English. He took a liking to hip hop instantly and learned the language quickly by rapping along with just about anything he could get his hands on. Today, Bohan is an anomaly in music- a fixture in both the US and Chinese music scenes, whose lyrical blend of Mandarin and English reflects his dual identity and aim to bridge the gap between the two cultures he calls his own.

Despite courtship from big budget labels or TV game shows known for manufacturing the cookie cutter pop stars of the past, Bohan continues to push towards the future on his own terms, boldly cultivating a sound of his own, and in turn, the future of hip hop in China and beyond.

In 2017, Bohan embarked on his 16-city headline JALA Tour, hitting all major and secondary markets in China as well as Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo and Manila. The tour was presented in partnership with Beats by Dre, YouKu and XiaMi and led to further partnerships including creating an original track used in an AR feature for Taobaoʼs Singles Day, an original animated biographic short produced by Beats by Dre and merchandise partnerships with leading streetwear brand STA.

The tour follows release of Bohanʼs JALA EP, whose title track and video premiered with The FADER and 88rising. The release features two of Chinaʼs most promising musical exports: Chengdu trap stars the Higher Brothers and Howie Lee, founder of Chinaʼs signature underground electronic label Do Hits. JALA was met with critical acclaim and was included on Spotifyʼs Fresh Finds and Apple Musicʼs Hot Tracks, garnered a spotlight on Revolt, interviews on Bandcamp Daily, Magnetic Mag and a Boiler Room and Fendi performance during New York Fashion Week alongside Migos, 21 Savage and Metro Boomin.

Bohan has also performed at Modern Skyʼs signature Strawberry Festival and on tour, features opening performances from Asiaʼs leading artists including Higher Brothers, Doughboy, 阿克江, SALU, JP and the Wavvy, Visudy, PACT and Gunknown of The Boring Room, the Beatween crew, Harikiri and more. In 2015, Bohan also toured China with on VICE CHINAʼs Motherland Tour alongside Howie Lee, Mike Gao and Nehzuil, followed by a solo headline tour in 2016.
