Critical Praise:
“The sounds of Atlanta hip-hop remained dominant in 2016 thanks in part to a steady stream of new ideas and new stars. One of the most promising up-and-comers is YFN Lucci.” – Billboard
Artist to Watch in 2017: YFN Lucci – HotNewHipHop
The Announcement:
A rising star on the Atlanta rap scene, YFN Lucci‘s brand of melodic trap music has the young artist climbing up charts. Following a massive rise in recognition and success following his huge national hit “Key to the Streets,” YFN Lucci announces his first project of 2017: his upcoming EP, Long Live Nut. Featuring appearances from Rick Ross, Boosie Bad Azz, Lil Durk, PNB Rock, Dreezy, and YFN Trae Pound, Long Live Nut is the most refined version of YFN Lucci’s sound yet, showcasing his impeccable ear for melody and hooks and his skill at conveying powerful emotion through trap music. Named after and dedicated to Nut, YFN Lucci’s late mentor who died before he could witness the Think It’s a Game artist’s rise to success, Long Live Nut’s features a powerful photograph of YFN Lucci with Nut’s son, delivering flowers to Nut’s grave while a faded photograph of the late gangster looks on. The next step up on YFN Lucci’s ladder to superstardom, Long Live Nut releases on Nut’s birthday, April 4th.
YFN Lucci explains his relationship with his friend Nut: “Nut was my big homie, he meant the world to me. None of my success would be possible without him. He introduced me to Fly, who signed me to his Think Its a Game label. I met Nut 5 years ago through a friend. He was big in the streets–he the type of man you needed to link with when you came to Atlanta. He heard my music and said, ‘I’m gonna make sure you get on.’ When he asked who my favorite rappers were, I named Lil Wayne, Meek Mill and Drake. He said, ‘You’re harder than all of them. I listen to only you and Boosie.’ He started taking me with to the club every night. He would introduce me to everyone and get my music played. He was killed January 10th, 2015. It was right after I dropped my mixtape in mid-December. He got killed right before I had my first real show.”
Today, YFN Lucci shares the menacing “Ammunition,” the latest taste of the upcoming EP. Produced by Metro Boomin, who imbues the track with a sinister, piano-heavy bombast, “Ammunition” finds the Atlanta rapper reloading and gearing up to protect what’s his: “On every mission you know we ain’t missing/And you know we having ammunition/Know me finger itchin’/Know I keep that pistol on me like it’s a tradition.” Featuring an appearance from YFN Trae Pound and premiered by HotNewHipHop, “Ammunition” is the third single from the EP, following the new PNB Rock-featuring anthem “Everyday We Lit,” currently burning up the charts as a new anthem, and the epic June James-produced highlight “Never Worried.”
With just two years in the rap game under his belt, the artist YFN Lucci already scored his first certified-Gold record with “Key to the Streets,” which dominated urban radio last year. A critical and commercial success with high-profile guest appearances from Quavo and Takeoff of Migos and ATL local hero Trouble, “Key To The Streets” steadily climbed throughout the year, accumulating over 42 million YouTube views, peaking at #70 at the Billboard charts, reaching #1 on Mediabase‘s urban airplay chart, and earning an official remix featuring 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne. The standout track from Wish Me Well 2, which HotNewHipHop praised as one of the Hottest 20 Mixtapes of 2016 and XXL praised as one of the 50 Best Hip-Hop Projects of 2016, “Key To the Streets” propelled YFN Lucci to industry recognition with Billboard and HotNewHipHop each naming him an Artist To Watch for 2016.
Last week, Think It’s a Game Records showed their appreciation for YFN Lucci by throwing him an intimate party for his 26th birthday, recapped in a short video released yesterday. With appearances from his friends and family, including his mother, his two children, artists like ForteBowie, Johnny Cinco, and YFN JuJu, and the family of his late mentor Nut, the inspiration behind Lucci’s EP, YFN Lucci’s birthday recap is a heart-warming inside look into his personal life. Next, YFN Lucci will join Jeezy and Lil Durk on Jeezy’s Trap or Die 3 Tour, which embarks on March 1st with a show in Kansas City, and ends on April 6th in San Diego.
