The Video:

With enough cash to swim in and “half a million dollar wardrobe in the closet,” Young Dolph cements his title as the King of Memphis on “Baller Alert.” Throwing bills in the air and smoking a joint with his trusted Flipper, Young Dolph shows us how to achieve the baller life in the FADER-premiered video. “Baller Alert,” off Dolph’s recent Gelato mixtape, follows a series of releases, including “Meech,” “Gelato,” and Yo Gotti diss track “Play Wit Yo Bitch,” which has garnered over 638,000 plays on SoundCloud since its drop last Wednesday.

Young Dolph’s Gelato mixtape, which released on February 2nd, is a shining collection of head-nodders, bangers, and boastful street tales. Featuring verses from Migos, Lil Yachty, and Wiz Khalifa, as well as production from Zaytoven, Nard & B, among others, the project is a Southern treat for all. “Dolph’s new mixtape, Gelato, is a ridiculously solid piece of trap music,” Stereogum praised. “There’s no thirst in him. His shit-talk feels effortless. And that’s why he’s winning.”

Young Dolph had a triumphant 2016 and isn’t stopping anytime soon. His last project, Rich Crack Baby, boasted features from T.I., Gucci Mane, Boosie Badazz, 21 Savage, Wale and 2 Chainz and production from Zaytoven, Drumma Boy, Honorable C-Note, among others. Rich Crack Baby was the third mixtape from Young Dolph’s busy year, following Bo$$e$ and $hooter$ and King of Memphis, which was praised by XXL as one of the Best Projects of the Year. A frequent collaborator in the trap world, Dolph has also released “She Will” with Taylor Gang‘s Sosamann, “Run Dem Bandz” with Mista Cain, and “Bling Blaww Burr” with Gucci Mane. As Noisey counseled earlier this year, “start paying attention to Young Dolph before you look stupid as shit.”

Young Dolph Background

Born on the South Side of Chicago and raised in notoriously known Castalia Heights neighborhood in South Memphis, Young Dolph emerged in the urban music scene and amassed a large dedicated fan base.  Dolph grew up in a hectic environment, surrounded by drugs and alcohol, but that never completely defined him. He always had a passion for music, but it wasn’t until his peers recognized his talent and suggested that he take rap seriously. Eventually, his hustle mentality and creativity led him to consistently dropping mixtape after mixtape. On the strength of releasing consistent quality mixtapes, Dolph became one of the only independent musicians to have multiple Top 20 records with “Preach” and “California” and Top 40 records with “Make the World Go Around” and “Pulled Up.” Yet to release an official album, the success Dolph has gained from his mixtapes have led to collaborations with some of the most influential artists in hip-hop including 2 Chainz, Juicy J, Young Jeezy, and Rick Ross. Dolph recently released Rich Crack Baby and completed his nation-wide Royalty tour.

EMPIRE Background

EMPIRE was founded in 2010 as an artist-friendly, progressive digital distribution company. After early success, and identifying future icons such as Kendrick Lamar, Sage The Gemini, and Rich Homie Quan, EMPIRE was quickly regarded as a tastemaker in the industry and throughout the past five years evolved into a full-fledged record label, distributor and publisher for independent musicians. With the company and roster growing at a breakneck pace, EMPIRE has effectively disrupted a stale business model by bringing its energy, expertise, and acumen to its artists and labels. Given its reputation, EMPIRE works with today’s hottest talent from superstars such as T.I. and red-hot newcomers such as Anderson .Paak. While remaining 100% independent, EMPIRE has also partnered with Atlantic Records for a joint venture, home to breakout star D.R.A.M. and joined forces with Republic Records for the release of Sage The Gemini’s Remember Me album.
