MP3: Justin Timberlake – “Can’t Stop The Feeling” (King Most Redirection)
The San Francisco DJ/Producer Samples Legendary Drummer/Producer Narada Michael Walden, Redirects the Billboard Number One Hit

The Redirection:
Justin Timberlake‘s “Can’t Stop the Feeling“ is an effortlessly breezy pop-funk number, tailor made to rule the airwaves and soundtrack summer barbecues. In his new redirection of the track, San Francisco DJ King Most injects a more organic, funky feel into the track, adding airy major-seventh keyboard chords and a drum sample from the accomplished drummer and great pop songwriter/producer Narada Michael Walden (who wrote “How Will I Know?” for Whitney Houston and “Heartbreaker” for Mariah Carey). The redirection removes much of the synthetic sounds and artificiality of the original track, unmooring the track from modern pop sounds and recreating the feel of classic albums like Michael Jackson’s Off The Wall and Whitney Houston’s debut.
“We’re grown enough to finally acknowledge the awesomeness of pop,” explains King Most. “When it’s good, it’s timeless, but when it’s super corny, it deserves all the hate it can get. I wanted to make sure that we’ll still like one of the contenders of “Song of the Summer” by Labor Day via a little help from the famed pop music god and songwriter Narada Michael Walden, the always important sample, and some keyboard work too.”
King Most is a mainstay of San Francisco nightlife. A capable technician with the brain of a crate-digger and a crowd-friendly sensibility, he regularly mans the decks for the likes of Red Bull and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. His nuanced productions show up in sets of the likes of JazzyJeff,Giles Peterson and radio support from KCRW and Triple J to name a few. “I call them redirections,” King Most explains, “because sometimes it’s just a mission of improving a song by adding keys and bass with different drums, sometimes I’m just putting a vocal over a different already existing beat, and sometimes it’s both: making the beat from scratch and then finding the right vocals.” Earlier this year, King Most paid tribute to Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest with his redirection of “Can I Kick It?”, which combined the acapella track from the legendary cut with music from James Brown and Fela Kuti. Whether you’re a promoter in Miami, a party-goer in New York, a hip-hop kid who enjoys rock & roll in Tokyo, or a dance music lover who loves D’Angelo in San Francisco, during the 52 weekends of the year King Most hopes to remind you that DJing is about skill, selection, and having fun.
