Video: The Last Artful, Dodgr – “Squadron” (Prod. By W N T D)

Critical Praise:
“Lacing soulfully psychedelic beats with her otherworldly sing-song flow, it’s unlike anything that’s come out of the local hip-hop scene” – Wilmette Week
“The L.A.-born, Portland-based artist has an unmistakable voice—it’s the kind of raspy, sneering delivery that oozes confidence and power.” – Pigeons & Planes
The Video:
Equipped with memorable melodies, an agile flow, and puckish, often ostentatious wordplay, L.A.-born Portland-based rapper/singer The Last Artful, Dodgr is gearing up for a series of 2016 releases, led by her new video single “Squadron.” The video premiered today at Pigeons & Planes, who raved, the “artist has an unmistakable voice—it’s the kind of raspy, sneering delivery that oozes confidence and power, especially on that bouncy, elastic chorus.” Filmed at the Sticks & Stones workshop in Portland, the video finds Dodgr exuberantly taking over the streets and art classrooms of her city, spitting in her trademark melodic flow. “My definition of squadron is fluid,” reveals Dodgr, “as the term applies to any group of people I may feel comfortable expressing myself in the midst of and sharing energy with.” Produced by Australian producer/DJ W N T D, “Squadron” precedes forthcoming projects under Portland-based labels Fresh Selects and EYRST, who released Dodgr’s dark R&B Fractures EP in 2015.
The Last Artful, Dodgr, neè Alana Chenevert, has adopted Portland as her hometown, but her Los Angeles childhood informs all of her music. “The meaning of my name has evolved in tandem with my creative process,” The Last Artful, Dodgr explains to Pigeons & Planes. “Lala is a childhood nickname based on my birth name, Alana – L.A. also being where I grew up – I wanted to make sure my name reflected my roots, initials of Last Artful (being my mother’s last child and the creative of the two), plus reference to the L.A. Dodgers. I was also an avid reader growing up and Artful Dodger was one of my favorite characters. Take out the “e” in Dodger for SEO purposes, blend all that together and so far we’re at The Last Artful, Dodgr. Ultimately, ‘The Last Artful,’ is just a signature — Dodgr is the artist.” Look for more music from The Last Artful, Dodgr later in 2016.

The Last Artful, Dodgr Background
When you think of Miami hip-hop, chances are very high that Rick Ross instantly comes to mind. You don’t realize that there’s a whole new wave of South Florida artists that have been solidifying their place in the game for a while now and don’t sound anything alike. 25-yr old artist Sylvan LaCue, is one of the leaders seeking to carry on tradition by bringing back pride to his city, and a new identity to go with it.
