BKLYN1834 is a talent incubator for young artists who live together in a co-op style Victorian Home in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn and create music, art, videos, comedy, and other creative content. Modeled after the salon-like atmosphere of Hitsville and Gertrude Steinās home, founding resident and creative director of BKLYN134, Andrew Thomas Reid, traveled to Nicaragua and Spain to convince friends to move into the house in the summer of 2009.
[wpex click for full bio]BKLYN1834 supports young artists by providing them with a place to live, write, record and produce content in a creative and collaborative environment. Previous and current BKLYN1834 residents have worked with Prince, Taylor Swift, Toby Keith, Snarky Puppy, Theophilus London, Freddie Gibbs, Pharaohe Monch, Denitia and Sene, among others. Fittingly nicknamed “The Clubhouse,” the community has housed over 50 residents since its inception.
BKLYN1834’s long-term goal is to create a network of similar clubhouses across the country and around the world. By continuing to produce digital content in-house, we want to create a global community where artists, fans, and brands can all engage.
With more and more brands recognizing the value of authentic grassroots ideas that appeal to 18-34 yr olds, BKLYN1834 has already been tapped for collaborations by Pepsi, Converse, Apple and Blackstone Realty. Forbes called BKLYN1834 āa tool every marketer should have in its back pocket.”
Brooklyn was founded in 1834, and its rich 180 year history of creativity and independence is alive and well on a tree-lined street in Ditmas Park today.

ATR777
[print_gllr id=28225]official site |Ā twitter |Ā instagram |Ā soundcloud
ATR777’s first release, a remix of Denitia and Sene’s debut EP, was released by London-based Mixmag last February. His next project stems from an adventure to The Far East. Journeying to Shanghai found ATR in the midst of the contrasting duality of China’s most Westernized city: tranquil bamboo gardens growing in the shadows of immense sky scrapers while centuries-old temples compete for attention against hyperactive video games. The images and sounds of ATR reflect this dichotomy, bringing spacious and down-tempo grooves together with thundering beat drops. With ghostly textures of chopped and screwed vocals, each moment of ATR’s music settles in deep enough to touch your core. Each track is surrounded by a mysterious glow of something sacred.
As the originator of the BKLYN1834 artist community, ATR is used to working with dozens of different styles and genres. Beginning his production arc with Theophilus London, Blu, Freddie Gibbs, and other rap media darlings, his love for straight hip-hop eventually morphed into more melancholy, spacious thumps with ethereal layers of synth, giving way to his own vocal style. The influence of his Texas roots shines through with slow tempos and chopped and screwed vocal samples. ļæ¼[/wpex]

Bobby Only emerged in spring 2014 as the collaboration between Martha Skou and Andrew Thomas Reid (creative director of BKLYN1834.) Together they make auto-tuned synth-pop that feels soothes the melancholy soul. They describe their music as, ā Walking into your own dream and asking yourself questions youāve been ignoring for years.ā Their upcoming self-titled EP was created in a single sitting with the debut track, āDropping Hints.” Skou came to ATR with an acapella track and a few hours later their unique sound was born.
Skou has been a part of the creative scene in Copenhagen for a decade, curating events and playing in different projects and has recently shown her visual art in NYC Galleries (Oak Street Light Gallery, ITP Spring Show, Silent Barn.) Growing a community of artists over the past 7 years, producer Andrew Thomas Reid (ATR777) is used to working with wildly different personalities, sounds, and productions styles. In the past, heās collaborated with Theophilus London, Blue, Freddie Gibbs but has turned to a more ethereal, melancholy, synth-based production style. Bobby Only stems from the thick layers of ATR’s tracks, blended with the sweet yet synthetic auto-tuned vocals of Skou.

Foe Destroyer

Ultimately, the goal of Foe Destroyer is to create something mythical and timeless; imagine the Odyssey if there was dreamy guitars and fuzzy bass rumblings. Foe is at first lush and innocently sweet, but dive deeper and you’ll find that a deep thrashing underlines every song. Taking their name from a Buddhist concept, Foe Destroyer represents leaving a life of material to seek pure nirvana. Foe Destroyer, as a band, sounds like just that: leaving your clothes behind and heading out on the road ā happy, lonely and free.
Originally from Denton, Texas, Foe Destroyer’s members are collectively a pool of talent the size of the Lone Star State itself. While the band itself is coming off a tour with Camera Obscura, they are active in their own pursuits. Grammy-winner Chris McQueen (Snarky Puppy) has been touted by David Crosby as one of the best modern day guitarists. McQueen is flanked by Danny Garcia and Cade Sadler, who, as bklyn1834 artists in residence play to sell-out crowds all over NYC with artists they musically direct (Ro James, Vicktor Taiwo) as well as holding down the music pit for OffBroadway musicals like Micheal Mitnick‘s Fly By Night.

NāTIONS
[print_gllr id=28319]official site |Ā twitter |Ā instagram | Ā soundcloud
NāTIONS is a collaborative project helmed by veteran producers and principle songwriters Nolan Thies and Toby Pipes. After working out of Pipesā studio for years together in Dallas, Pipes relocated to Baton Rouge, and Thies to Brooklyn, where they recruit additional vocalists and musicians, depending on what theyāre currently working on. Matching the strengths of each performer to the particular demands of their songs, NāTIONS yields an eclectic but cohesive sound unified by a common creative vision. With influences ranging from Roxy Music to Caribou to Talk Talk, NāTIONS crafts sophisticated pop with unidentifiable instrumentation and evocative textures into a subliminal soundscape.
As a BKLYN1834 artist in residence Nolan Thies is a recording engineer at The Bunker Studio in Brooklyn and has spent the last few years mixing songs for, and touring with denitia.and.sene. (Top 10 iTunes release). Toby Pipes is co-founder of Deep Blue Something (Top 5 US Single, #1 Single in UK, Gold Records in US, UK, Ger, Aus, Den) and co-owner of BPL Studios. Past and present contributors to NāTIONS projects include Denitia Odigie (denitia.and.sene.), Andrew Reid (ATR777), Jay Jennings (Snarky Puppy), Sly5thAve (Prince), Danny Garcia (Foe Destroyer), and Sene.

Saint Ballantine
[print_gllr id=28318]official site | Ā twitter |Ā instagram | Ā soundcloud
Saint Ballantine is the soundtrack for the times. A project born from the combination of
long-time collaborators Brian ‘sene’ Marc and ATR (creative director of BKLYN1834), Saint Ballantine combines a punk attitude with beats that sound like they are being listened to from outside of a dodgy club’s doors somewhere in the future. Sene (also half of denitia and sene) and ATR have a combined production credit list that includes Theophilus London, Bosco, Blu, Freddie Gibbs, Denitia, Res, Coco
O. and more.
Their upcoming debut EP, the stoned, blends genres, sounds, and styles that yield their signature sound. They don’t sound like this one or that one and they are proud of that. They describe their project as āThe imaginary soundtrack of the movie Kids if it were a musical a la Tommy.ā Coincidentally, Sene is co-starring in the upcoming Killer Productions / Bank Street Films/ Supermarche film entitled WHITEGIRL, which ATR makes a brief appearance in as well.

Sanctuary Sound
[print_gllr id=28321]official site |Ā instagram | soundcloud
As a teenager, Cade Sadler attended a week-long leadership seminar which included a daily guided meditation instructing participants to “go to your sanctuary.” A unique space imagined by each person, each participant dives into their most personal issues and thoughts. Sanctuary Sound is meant to help you find your sanctuary. With looped back-beats paint a backdrop for soft, dreamy guitar drones, Sadler’s sanctuary yields a listening experience that feels like sliding down a snow capped mountain on king-sized mattress, tucked in and warm under the covers. Sadler provides a flexible soundtrack that allows you to clear your thoughts or recall deep memories.
As a BKLYN1834 Artist in residence, Sadler has played in musicals (Rocky Horror Picture Show, Fly by Night) and bands (Foe Destroyer, The Goodnights). Sadler has had to find his sanctuary whenever, wherever, but he started by making loops solo in a South Philly basement. With a guitar, synthesizer, and an Electro-Harmonix Memory Man, the songs are built in one sitting, with added effected loops from different instruments. As a 10 year tour veteran (recently alongside Camera Obscura), Sadler’s live shows are dynamic and hypnotizing. Projections, beat loops, live instruments and vocals combine for a saturated, multi-sensory experience. Brooklyn’s seedy, DIY venues are the perfect place to catch Sanctuary Sound – in the heart of the profane it’s possible to find peace.
