Webisode: Jahzel & The Black Key Collective – The Collective: Episode 5

Despite hitting a rough patch parting ways with one of their co-managers, Chicago-bred rapper Jahzel and his Black Key Collective team continue work with plans for an epic hometown show in episode five of their six-part webisode series. Presented by HipHopDX, the captivating series follows Jahzel’s crew from budgeting, team-building, scheduling, and traveling, just to name a few of the tasks that come into play while managing an independent record label. In this episode, the rapper returns home from a New York City press run to more interviews and tasks, keeping the momentum rolling after the release of his album,The Wake Up. Now a two-man team, Jahzel and manager Navarro seek a venue for a hometown performance, which Jahzel rehearses for with a live band and predicts to be one of the year’s biggest local events.

In the previous episode we tracked Jahzel’s two-day run in the Big Apple, from freestyling for DJBooth TV’s RapBox to hosting a media dinner with notable music industry insiders. Jahzel also paid a visit to Viacom studios, where he delivered a presentation to MTV and VH1 staffers, playing his album and pitching music videos for rotation on the networks.

Whether he’s going on press runs or working on new music, Jahzel never fails to be on his hustle like a true Chicagoan. His album, The Wake Up, debuted via HotNewHipHop, who raved “Jahzel’s future brightens with every new release… we’re excited to hear more.” In his recent interview with AllHipHop, Jahzel spoke on anticipation for his upcoming EP and his current state as a musical artist, expressing the drive that’s keeping his career on the move. “I’m not waiting on nobody no more,” Jahzel stated, “I don’t care what anybody thinks; I have to go get it.”
