Critical praise for THE BL∆CK HE∆RTS CLUB:
“The Black Hearts Club… the new trio making songs that sound like the sun shining on a spring day.” – The FADER
“It’s a wildly enthusiastic song, feeling like something The Neptunes could’ve dropped in their heyday.” – Consequence of Sound
“This talented trio just may be onto something.” – HYPETRAK
The Song:
THE BL∆CK HE∆RTS CLUB began forming in New Orleans in 2003, that’s where native songwriter/instrumentalist Lucho met Congolese French rapper Alec Lomami. While no name or label was initially attributed to their collaborative efforts, they continued to develop a working relationship, even as they embarked on their own travels, which led to what they call “postal service production,” as they sent music back-n-forth, each making individual edits and additions. Lomami’s cousin, Charlotte, NC rapper Well$ is the third member of THE BL∆CK HE∆RTS CLUB. The 20-year-old has been staking his claim as an artist to watch this year – having been covered by Billboard, Pitchfork, the Fader, and most recently JUICE Magazine.
On “Girl Tell Me Something,” the first single from BHC’s forthcoming Insomnia EP, showtune horns ring out as the young MC sets things off with a quick verse, followed by harmonized singing by Lucho, and eventually a rap by Lomami. “It’s a wildly enthusiastic song,” says Consequence of Sound in their premiere of the track, “feeling like something The Neptunes could’ve dropped in their heyday.” The FADER shares similar sentiments, saying the song “has that kind of universalized ’60s/’70s R&B feel that Pharrell has made his own.”

THE BL∆CK HE∆RTS CLUB Background:
THE BL∆CK HE∆RTS CLUB is a collaborative project between producer/singer Lucho of the band Youth Sounds, Charlotte, North Carolina rapper Well$ and Congolese rapper/producer Alec Lomami. THE BL∆CK HE∆RTS CLUB is a product of ingenuity and circumstance. While working as a production team on Well$’ MTSYD: the Revenge of the African Booty Scratcher mixtape, Lucho and Alec began recording a series of demos which would incorporate all three artists in a new side project. During a recording session in the summer of 2012, “Girl Tell Me Something” came into fruition and became the blueprint by which THE BL∆CK HE∆RTS CLUB would cultivate their sound. Once MTSYD was successfully recorded Lucho, Well$, and Alec set out to record their debut EP entitled Insomnia, which is slated to be released in early 2015 via Immaculate Taste.
