Tour: Latyrx – The Second Album World Tour
Groundbreaking Duo Touring to Support Upcoming Release of Their First Album in 16 Years 10.2.2013
The Tour:
Rappers/producers Lyrics Born and Lateef the Truth Speaker, together known as Latyrx, are releasing their first album in nearly two decades on November 5th. The highly-anticipated release, titled The Second Album, features members of Tune Yards, Anticon, Living Colour, The Decemberists and Blackalicious to name a few. Now, Latyrx are setting out on The Second Album World Tour with Bay Area hip-hop duo Skins & Needles in support of the album. Starting in Denver, Colorado on October 25th, the tour covers the western part of the U.S. with stops in San Francisco, Seattle, Boise and more. Orgone, Forrest Day, DJ Aaron AxelsEn (LIVE105 + Popscene), and Chief Xcel of Blackalicious will also appear on select dates. The first leg of the tour dates and purchase tickets are below. The second half of the tour will continue in early 2014. Says Lyrics Born, “I love traveling, the instant interaction with fans, and the adrenaline. This is the first time in 16 years we will have a whole new album’s worth of material to perform. It’s exciting to be able to add on to the legacy we’ve already created with new classics. I’m super looking forward to this tour.”
The Second Album continues where they left off 16 years ago when they released their first album, The Album, which is still universally considered a classic that broke the mold for independent rap albums both sonically and sales-wise. Never before had a rap duo pushed the envelope in terms of creative sound and political message and been so widely accepted and celebrated. As true ambassadors of the culturally and historically rich San Francisco Bay Area, with Lyrics Born identifying as being an Asian American that “happens to be bi-racial, basically a member of the Obama generation,” and Lateef’s father having worked security detail for the Black Panthers and his mother having worked as a medic for the Panthers, it’s no surprise that much of their lyrical content is socially and politically charged. Backed with their signature production style that’s full of rare funk and soul samples, Latyrx’s 2013 richly textured release will appeal to old fans and garner them new ones.
In the 90’s, Latyrx helped co-found the Solesides collective and artist-run record label consisting of DJ Shadow and Blackalicious, which pushed boundaries of commercial hip-hop using sounds atypical of the mainstream 90s hip-hop scene. The past 20 years has seen them working on various solo projects, writing books, having their music used in campaigns by Nissan and EA Games, being nominated for a Grammy, appearing on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE and the Late Show with David Letterman and at festivals around the world, the two are ready to unleash their forward-thinking experimental-leaning second full-length project, The Second Album, on their own Latyramid label on November 5th.

Latyrx Background:
Latyrx is the alternative hip-hop duo of rappers/producers Lyrics Born and Lateef the Truth Speaker. Rooted in the Bay Area Solesides collective of the 1990s, which also included DJ Shadow and future members of Blackalicious, the duo released their seminal The Album in 1997 to critical acclaim. They quickly followed up with the Muzapper’s Mixes EP in 1998, which produced the notable, boundary-pushing and feminist-affirming track “Lady Don’t Tek No.” Both went on to numerous solo projects and collaborations with other artists before reuniting to work on their long-awaited follow up, The Second Album, which is due out November 5th.
