The Album:
Houston veteran and Southern Rap Legend Trae Tha Truth returns today with his 8th solo studio album Tha Truth 2, premiered by The FADER. The album release and FADER premiere comes hot on the heels of new T.I., B.o.B and Ink-featuring single “Let Me Live,” debuted on Ebro Darden‘s show on Apple‘s Beats 1 last night, and the reveal of Trae’s “Crazy” music video, which dropped earlier this week on FuseTV. Trae Tha Truth’s Tha Truth 2 album and “Let Me Live” single also follow “Takers” with Quentin Miller, “All Good” with T.I., Rick Ross, and Audio Push, and “Slugs” featuring Young Thug. As is to be expected with the well-respected Trae, Tha Truth 2 boasts a wide range of features from bonafide superstars Wiz Khalifa, T.I., and Rick Ross to street rap vets like Yo Gotti to top notch newcomers such as Watch the Duck and Quentin Miller. The second part of a two album series, Tha Truth 2, follows 2015’s Tha Truth, which included “Trickin’ Every Car I Get” featuring Future and Boosie, as well as “Never Knew,” for which Trae released a visual earlier this year amid his national Truth Tour, which continues through February.
“I’m somewhat excited but somewhat nervous at the same time,” Trae tells The FADER. “I feel like Tha Truth 2 is definitely a step up from part one. It’s a continuation, but any time you do a sequel you gotta make it interesting. This is probably one of my dopest projects to date. I opened up a lot more as far as where I’m at and my mind state – I let people in. People run from reality so much, and the fact that I’m giving it to them head first I feel like they’re going to appreciate it.”

Trae is eager for his longtime supporters to hear the new album, but he also hopes to win new fans. As he confesses to The FADER: “I listen to it but at the same time I don’t listen to it because I wanna experience it like everyone else when it comes out. Everybody’s excited and everybody loves it. One thing that I understand is that it’s a work in progress because there’s a lot of people that aren’t familiar with my music yet, but once they hear it it’s most definitely gonna be appreciated.”

Trae Tha Truth Background:
There are three ways to write about Trae Tha Truth. One is to talk about his music, and that’s important because he is a rapper and making music is what he does. The other is to talk about him as a human, and that’s important, because he has done some truly monumental and impressive things. The third is to talk about the intersection of him as a rapper and him as a humanitarian, because that’s where Trae really belongs. His music is often inspired by the experiences of the disenfranchised, which is rooted in the broken roads of the ghetto. It’s driven by loss, by love, by loyalty, and by when one or two or all of those things are taken away or tested of those he cares about.
Trae Tha Truth is very modest, he never talks about his guest features he’d done or any of his new tapes (Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, T.I., Nas, etc.) or how he’d landed another MTV JAM Video of the Week or how he’d signed to T.I.’s label or any of the things people were watching him accomplish from afar. What you need to about Trae is he is a rapper, who has only ever viewed rap as another way for him to help people. Trae Tha Truth’s Tha Truth 2 is the second part of a two album series, following 2015’s Tha Truth. The project came out on February 5th and is available to buy on iTunes.
