MP3: Sudie – “Spill”
Dallas Observer Covergirl, Indie-Pop Singer Sudie Releases Second Single Off Self-Titled EP, Releasing August 26th
06.30.2014
Critical Praise for Sudie:
“If the work under her belt is any indicator, a staggering talent like Sudie’s could very well be mentioned one day in the same breath as some of North Texas’ most notable women in music.” – Dallas Observer News
The Song:
Following the release of her first single, “Heartattack,” and a recent cover story in the Dallas Observer, Okayplayer premieres 22-year old indie-pop singer Sudie‘s “Spill,” the second track from her forthcoming self-titled EP. Borrowing influences from the likes of Björk and Billie Holiday, the Dallas-based singer/songwriter/producer is forging a new lane within the pop world. On “Spill,” Sudie plays a ringing vibraphone full of reverb before prominently displaying her singing capabilities, which contribute to the song’s dream-pop aesthetic. With lyrics like, “So take a look all around you / go on and open up your eyes / wander through that open place and redirect your guide,” Sudie paints a hazy, experimental picture full of infectious hooks and melodies. When speaking about her lyrical content and music, Sudie explains, “Music is my way of spilling my guts to the world. All of those things that either make the wheel rot or shiny are always turning in my head. If you want to know my darkest secrets, just listen to my music.”
Sudie recently attended Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee, along with 20 other hand-picked musicians from the southern United States as a member of Red Bull Music Academy’s Bass Camp. Looking back on the experience Sudie states, “I have never experienced such an incredibly amazing and inspiring creative environment before. It truly generated this new supportive and loving family among all of the people involved.”
Sudie will be released on August 26th via Black Milk’s Computer Ugly record label.

Sudie Background:
Merging classical training with a unique DIY recording process, Sudie is an artist who’s truly forging her own territory. The 22-year-old singer, songwriter and musician, describes her sound as “something jazzy meets kind of crazy… if Bjork had arranged something for Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holiday to sing over.” It’s a sound she’s crafted all by herself, utilizing a pair of keyboards, a cheap microphone and a MacBook inside the confines of her tiny bathroom in Dallas, Texas, that’s taken her to Dubai and back. The result of that unusual process is a distinctive but accessible musical style, which fuses confessional, personal lyrics with influences from across the musical spectrum. Sudie will release her debut self-titled EP on August 26th via Black Milk’s Computer Ugly record label.
