In the video for “Come Outside,” Chicago rapper Sir Michael Rocks is sporting a cheeky smirk. It could be because he’s partying with all his friends. It may be because of his recent travel to places like the Dominican Republic or Tokyo for fashion week.  It might be because young emcee just released his Populair EP. Whatever the reason, Sir Michael Rocks is excited, elated, and has delivered a brand new sound, which the Examiner calls, “multi-directional, unpredictable, zany, chaotic, serious and dark.”

Produced by Aegyokiller, “Come Outside” debuted via Mass Appeal and includes an eerie sample from the Resident Evil Save Room theme.  The video features the former The Cool Kids rapper and his crew doing some Chicago stepping to a heart-racing kick and speedy percussion. Rocks is no stranger to using video game samples in his tracks. On the Street Fighter-sampling second single “Perfect,” The A.V. Club noted the song “is fairly chippy and pixilated, it makes perfect sense that the accompanying video is video game-centric.”

The Populair EP, which premiered via Complex, is Sir Michael Rocks’ followup to last year’s Banco. Whereas Banco featured guest artists Mac Miller, Twista, and Iamsu!, the more personal and retrospective Populair features no guests. Rocks self-produced edgy tracks “Quality Time Lapse” and “In My Mode, ” where he boasts “I just bought a 3-D printer and I printed out a kilo.” “You can almost hear a bit of Bone Thugs and Suga Free in his style,” said HYPETRAK of the Populair EP’s first single, “Pull Up.”
