Video: OMB Peezy – “Fuck My P.O.”

The Alabama-via-Bay Area Rising Star Smokes in His Safehouse in the Noisey-Premiered Video

4.10.2018

Critical Praise:

“[OMB Peezy] is tough but melodic, with a youthfully urgent voice and production that’s indebted to Louisiana and California.” – New York Times

“Peezy’s impassioned flow makes the circumstances he’s discussing feel visceral and immediate as a listener; there’s nothing impressionistic about his bars” – Pigeons and Planes

“This kid from Alabama is the future of rap.” – The FADER

The Announcement:

Stacking syllables at lightning speed with an inimitable southern drawl, OMB Peezy is one of the game’s most distinctive young voices. Building up a head of steam over a minor-key slapper, Peezy explores the various ways the life of a hustler runs afoul of the law in Fuck My P.O.,” his latest single. Brimming with fury and pride, Peezy rails against police and parole officers and their cruel treatment of ex-cons who try to toe the right path: “Crackers talkin’ bout my dreads/Sayin’ rappin’ ain’t a real job/Just bailed out for some marijuana before they hit me with a real charge.” In the video, premiered today by Noisey, Peezy stows away in a safehouse, until he has to run from a snooping police officer and escape the law.

Explains OMB Peezy, “The reason I wrote ‘Fuck My PO’ is because I was having legal problems with my previous probation officer. When you’re a bad child growing up and you finally find the right route for yourself you will still have troubles that you have to overcome within the system. But there is no reason for anybody to hold you back from building your future. So I wrote ‘Fuck My PO’ because that is how I feel; he’d been trying to hold me back from chasing my dream. I felt that it was important to make the video for this song because I wanted people to know the impact he had on my life at the time.”

Born in Alabama, the 20-year-old Peezy moved to the west coast when he was 12, developing a reputation as a rap prodigy, building a following on YouTube, and gaining the respect of the new wave of Bay Area artists such as Nef The Pharaoh and legends such as E-40. In 2017, OMB Peezy parlayed his grassroots local fanbase into a national following, earning millions of combined streams on his singles like the virally popular hitsWhen I Was Down,” Porch,” and Lay Down,” which Pigeons & Planes listed at #14 in their halftime list of Best Songs of 2017 and which Passion of the Weiss listed as their #19 for the year. In October, Peezy shared his debut project Humble Beginnings, a slap-heavy six-pack produced in full by Grammy-nominated producer Cardo Got Wingz (Kendrick Lamar, Jeezy, Meek Mill) and released by Sick Wid It/300 Ent.. Peezy also toured throughout 2017, supporting Detroit artist Tee Grizzley in the fall and accompanying SOB x RBE on a national tour in the spring. In November, he collaborated with Gucci Mane on “Pray For Me,” a track by producer Adam Snow. In late 2017, Peezy shared videos for Humble Beginnings hits “Talk My Shit” and “Doin’ Bad,” and released a revealing documentary via TIDAL. Most recently, Peezy enjoyed a successful SXSW, including sets at the Revolt House, Sway In The Morning, and Facebook, which he documented in a recap vlog. In January, Peezy shared Young & Reckless, a joint mixtape with Peezy’s 300 Ent. labelmate Sherwood Marty, which proved that Peezy’s excellent run of 2017 singles was no fluke. Most recently, Peezy recruited Paper Lovee for the FADER-premiered Ride,” his latest single.
