Critical Praise for Mistah F.A.B.
“Mistah F.A.B. is a versatile Oakland MC with a wide-ranging capacity for tone and emotion—traits that have also made him a sharp songwriter for the likes of Too $hort, Snoop Dogg, B.o.B., and Tyga.” – Pitchfork
The Video:
The Hip-Hop world mourns Biggie and Tupac as its two greatest losses, but in the Bay Area, they honor Mac Dre with equal fervor. His outsized personality, gonzo wordplay, and street wisdom made him an icon and a beloved figure, growing in stature even after his death. A longtime friend and confidante of Mac Dre,Mistah F.A.B. is a torchbearer for Mac’s ideals of positivity and enjoying your time here on Earth. “Still Feelin’ It,” a highlight from Mistah F.A.B.’s recent album Son of a Pimp 2, is a modern reworking of Dre’s classic “Feelin’ Myself,” and is packed with lyrical references to his songs and his lifestyle: “I’m still tryin’ to find out, who’s Nancy Von Chillinwich?!” and “Like ‘HEY’ I’m in your bitch face with the Thizz face.” Filmed in front of the Mac Dre mural in Oakland and at a recent Mac Dre art show, F.A.B.’s video for “Still Feelin’ It” features clips of fans dancing to the track, throwing up “T’s” in tribute to The Thizzard of Oz. “Still Feelin’ It” is a fitting tribute to the unique, party-loving spirit of Mac Dre and a thrilling song and fun video in its own right.
This video is for the people and for the Bay,” says Mistah F.A.B. “It’s about the legacy and life of Mac Dre. I made a PSA and asked for small clips of Mac Dre fans dancing to the song, and the response was overwhelming. It’s a real testament to his lasting legacy and the love people still have for him. Everyone surrounding him could relate to him. He was a voice of the underworld, but also incredibly charismatic and an energy of fun. His motto was: Keep it gangsta but be yourself, get the most out of life. Mac was like, ‘I did too much time to be wasting time. I’m finna have fun and look good while doing it,’ I think everyone should adopt that type of mindset.
Throughout his career, Mistah F.A.B. has balanced his music with his role as a pillar in the Oakland community. In 2014, the city of Oakland officially made February 8th Mistah F.A.B. Day, in honor of his work in his community, from sponsoring and organizing numerous charitable works, including backpack giveaways, toy drives, turkey drives, and Easter Egg hunts, to funding scholarships and fundraising for groups homes. He also created programs for musicians while building local recording studios. Mistah F.A.B. advocay for human life compelled him to speak out against police brutality in the wake of the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philandro Castile with the incendiary “6 Shots,” which earned praise fromThe Atlantic and Pitchfork. Inspired by the death of his mother and the birth of his daughter, Mistah F.A.B. calls his latest album, Son of a Pimp 2, his best work to date. Featuring an impressive guestlist including Kendrick Lamar, Boosie Badazz, Iamsu!, E-40, G-Eazy, Too $hort, Snoop Dogg, 2 Chainz,Jadakiss, Raekwon, Schoolboy Q, Bun B and countless more, Son of a Pimp 2 is available to stream on Spotify and buy on iTunes.

Background:
Mistah F.A.B.’s breakout album, 2005’s Son of a Pimp, established the North Oakland emcee as a rising star, and a major factor in a resurgent Bay Area rap scene which would demand national attention from hip-hop’s cultural gatekeepers. A decade later—older, wiser, and more resilient—FAB returns with Son of A Pimp 2, a no-holds-barred, 21-track extravaganza he considers the truest representation of his artistic talent to date. The list of features is sure to raise eyebrows, as is the fact that FAB more than holds his own against some of the rap world’s most celebrated artists from practically every region in the United States. Just as impressive as the tracks themselves is the fact that FAB assembled his all-star roster of talent from his friends list, leveraging the networking he’s been doing for years as a go-to guy for out of town artists visiting the Bay, as well as his solid rep within Oakland.

With the company and roster growing at a breakneck pace, EMPIRE has effectively disrupted a stale business model by bringing its energy, expertise, and acumen to its artists and labels.
