The Single:
Following his 3-song, self-titled EP, which was released last week, Italy-born rapper/singer/producer MerCure Dior shares “Sleeping In Italy.” Currently living in Greenbelt, Maryland, the idea for the loose single came about when he found out he would be visiting his birthplace for the first time since leaving at 4-years-old. “Coming back to my birth place after 15 years has allowed me to see the world from a different light and reconnect with Italian culture,” says MerCure who is spending the summer in Torino, the Italian city where he was born. “Sleeping In Italy” carries atmospheric elements accompanied by smooth, hard-hitting drums which complement MerCure’s mellow lyrics.
MerCure’s recently released project, MerCure Dior: The EP, which was premiered with an interview on Jenesis Magazine, is the multi-talented 19-year-old’s first official release. The EP, written and produced in-full by MerCure, serves as a great preview of his range and potential. Although MerCure immigrated to the U.S. at a young age, he quickly found his niche in hip-hop. In addition to writing raps as a child, he played multiple instruments and was producing his own beats by the age of nine. MerCure Dior Background:
MerCure Dior was born of Cameroonian roots in Torino, Italy. At the age of four, his family relocated to the United States. His love for music allowed an easy transition into American culture, quickly teaching himself to play both guitar and piano as a child. However, he wasn’t fully satisified with the sound he was producing. At only nine years old he downloaded music producing software and began creating his own beats to rap over. Dior’s music was heavily influenced by his international heritage. Two of his uncles were credited with inspiring songs for James Brown and Michael Jackson and later helped to provide the Bendskin (Cameroon’s unique blend of pop and hip-hop) element in Dior’s music. Dior was further inspired by artists such as Tupac, Michael Jackson, and Kanye West, he continued to pursue his passion in music and dropped several mixtapes throughout middle school and high school. This assisted him in creating a solid fanbase known as The Disciple Life Ones, supporting the importance of spirituality that is present in Dior’s life and music.
