The Album:

Zealous Detroit rapper MAHD released his debut album, 13, yesterday via HotNewHipHop. The concept album follows MAHD through the stresses of a deteriorating relationship, which ends with him leaving his hometown in search of clarity and release. He sets out on a journey of personal reflection to escape Motor City only to realize he’s eternally tied and returns with a renewed sense of purpose and self-identity, hell-bent on creating a more fulfilling life.

13 follows the release of his EP, MAHD ALMIGHTY, and is his most ambitious project yet. MAHD has been building anticipation towards the release of the album with #MAHDMondays, releasing singles “Can’t Believe/Road Trip,” “Hello Detroit,” “Gorgeous Chick,” and “Out.” In addition to releasing those official singles, MAHD has shared several loosies, including “Rap Better,” which The Smoking Section praised, stating “Quality lyricism in hip-hop is a rare commodity. Yet, MAHD looks to break that mold.” 13 finds MAHD paying homage to his hometown, as the Motor City has contributed to his growth as an artist. “Detroit definitely motivates me and the supporters that I have,” he explains. “It definitely uplifts me. If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.”

MAHD is all about staying true to his art-focusing on sharp lyrics and delivery, taking hip-hop back to its core. His clever, gritty style has him on our radars as one of Detroit’s most innovative voices. “I developed this belief after looking around and seeing people complacent with lives that I couldn’t picture myself living forever. I feel I have a purpose on this earth that can bring change through my words so that’s what I’m doing.” MAHD will be joining Black Milk’s forthcoming Play Like Hell tour for the NYC, Philly, and D.C. dates, and will also be performing at several showcases at this year’s SXSW.
