The Song:
Detroit rapper MAHD continues as a force to be reckoned with, dropping his latest loose single “Spaz City” (Prod. by Yola Gang), which premiered via DJBooth, who called the track a “blazing hot offering.” With MAHD Monday’s, he’ll be releasing a series of loosies, collaborations, and singles from his upcoming album, 13. MAHD previously released the loosie “Rap Better,” which The Smoking Section premiered while praising MAHD’s raw talent, stating “Quality lyricism in Hip-Hop is a rare commodity. Yet, MAHD looks to break that mold.”
“Spaz City” is a banger driven by MAHD’s ruthless rhymes that rip through the production by Yola Gang, which features a stampeding string arrangement with a tidal wave of rumbling percussion. MAHD’s confidence is backed up by his bars, as he raps “Venom I’m spittin’ ain’t ever been written/ tried to tell ’em once, they ain’t wanna listen/ crack I’m spittin’, they ain’t wanna sniff it/ young to the old, it don’t make a difference, anyone could get it,” staking his claim one of Motor City’s toughest MC’s. MAHD has his mind focused on the game, ready to take on the hip-hop world with no room for mediocracy. He’s all about staying true to his art—focusing on sharp lyrics and delivery, taking hip-hop back to its core.
With #MAHDMondays building anticipation for the forthcoming album release, MAHD is kicking up his game in 2015. His sharp, gritty style has him hot on our radars as one of Detroit’s most innovative voices. Having been featured on VIBE, 2DopeBoyz, NYLON, XXL, and other music publications, MAHD is ready to make waves with the March 2 release of his album, 13, a project about his journey and hustle to success.
