Video: Lil Durk – “No Label”
The Alamo Records Signee Dramatizes A Friend’s Relationship Issues in this Rock Davis-Directed Video
3.11.2019
Critical Praise for Lil Durk:
“Unshackled from any kind of outline, Durk’s pen game shines. His rise was dotted with blood-soaked tales that summarized much of drill’s appeal: ground-level glimpses at Chicago’s South Side that colored in the outline offered by grim murder statistics.” –Pitchfork
“Lil Durk continues to be one of the most consistent rappers out.” – The FADER
“the rose that blossomed from the concrete of Chi-Town’s drill music scene” – Billboard
The Video:
Specializing in soaring melodies and grounded street stories, Lil Durk pioneered the sound of new Chicago. Taking a break from his own domestic bliss to comment on a friend’s relationship woes, Lil Durk shares “No Label,” his latest video. Released in late-January, “No Label” is a minor-key hookfest, packed with withering insults aimed towards a woman who wants more than Durk’s friend can give: “You Instagram famous, but you not a star.” The video, directed by Rock Davis, investigates a crumbling relationship, as the central couple squabbles in a Hollywood mansion. With some help from his OTF brethren King Von, OTF Ikey, and Booka600, Lil Durk acts as the devil on his friend’s shoulder, prying him away from his temporary relationship with the promise of more models. With over 2.5 million plays on Spotify and over 5 million YouTube views on its official audio, “No Label” expands upon the sonic palette Durk developed for Signed To The Streets 3, his November 2018 album, and starts to lay the groundwork for Love Songs to the Streets 2, a new mixtape coming this Spring.
Lil Durk had an epic 2018, marked by multiple mixtapes, a label change from Def Jam to Alamo, a move from Chicago to Atlanta, and, in November, the birth of his youngest child with his fiancé, India. The culmination of a five-year rise from underground sensation to mainstream star, Lil Durk pulled out all the stops for Signed to the Streets 3. Drawing guests from across hip-hop’s generational and geographical spectrum, Durk welcomes them all into his world in STTS 3, providing stark perspectives of street life with a strong emotional center, enhanced by Durk’s superlative sense of melody. Earlier this month, Lil Durk shined a spotlight on “Habit,” an introspective highlight from the album, delivering a flashy video that earned over 4.5 million YouTube views. Featuring guest spots from Future, Gunna, Kevin Gates, Ty Dolla $ign, Kodak Black, Lil Skies, and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Signed to the Streets 3 released via Alamo/Interscope, and peaked at #3 on Apple Music’s all-genre album streaming charts over its first weekend of release and debuted at #17 on the Billboard Albums chart.
