MP3: Demrick – “Different Day” ft. Casey Veggies (Prod. by StandOut Musik)
With His Collect Call Album Slated to Release June 24th, the Cali Rapper’s Latest Single is an Anthem for Your Summer Cruises
06.10.2016
The Video:
Demrick has been soaking up the Cali sun, as is evident in his latest single “Different Day.” An ascending trumpet and twinkling xylophone give the track a glitzy, vintage soul vibe that’s complemented by a guest verse from Casey Veggies. “‘Different Day’ was created from a very casual, yet real place,” Demrick explains. “I was sitting in the studio, and a few calls and texts had come through my phone that day that typically would’ve annoyed me. Rather than get annoyed, I was just in a mindset that wouldn’t allow me to get flustered on that particular day. The song feels exactly how I felt on the day I wrote it, which was stress-free.”
“Different Day” follows the release of the “Freak Show” video single, which debuted via VIBE and finds Demrick teaming up with acclaimed producer Scoop Deville, whose credits include Kendrick Lamar‘s “The Recipe” and “Poetic Justice,” and Snoop Dogg‘s “I Wanna Rock.” Prior to that, HotNewHipHopannounced Demrick’s Collect Call album with a premiere of “Back in the Daze,” where Demrick recounts running away from home in Spokane at just 14-years-old to pursue hip-hop in New York City. On the forthcoming Collect Call album, Demrick says: “The project is my most vulnerable work to date. I really represent the theory that ‘anything is possible.’ This is my best and most honest work to date.”
Born in Spokane to a single mother on welfare, the biracial Demrick found peace in hip-hop. After forming the Tangled Thoughts rap collective in high school, “Young De” linked up with Kurupt for several collaborations. Eventually, Demrick found his way into the studio with B-Real of Cypress Hill, earning several features on B-Real’s debut Smoke ‘N Mirrors. In 2013, Demrick teamed up with B-Real andXzibit to form the Serial Killers, releasing two projects and gracing the stages of Rock The Bells andLollapalooza. In 2015, Demrick released his first solo album, Losing Focus, on Madchild’s Battle Axe Records, produced entirely by Cali Cleve and featuring contributions from Logic, Dizzy Wright and others. Stay tuned for Collect Call, officially releasing on June 24th via 10 Stripe Records.
