The Announcement:
Fusing rap, electro, and pop into a unique blend, the Nigeria-born, Atlanta-bred, and L.A.-based Daye Jack is forging the sound of Hip-Hop’s future. Today, Daye (pronounced like “Kanye”) releases his second retail EP Surf The Web via Warner Bros. Records, a standout collection of seven tracks that demonstrate the breadth of his talent. Inspired by our obsessive online culture and by the warm weather and music scene of his new hometown of Los Angeles, Surf The Web is a potent mixture of electronic and organic sounds, coalescing around Daye’s prodigious skills as a singer and a rapper. The EP features seven tracks about living a human life in a digital world, including previously-released highlights such as the Apple Music Beats 1-premiered, Zane Lowe-approved “Deep End,” which alternates percussive rhymes with delicate falsetto, the accurately titled “Raw,” played more than 363,000 times on SoundCloud, which features snapping boom-bap drums and “Death of Auto-Tune”-style guitars, and the bassy electro pop-rap banger “Finish Line,” (122,000 plays on SoundCloud). Featuring a guest appearance from Dev09 and production from the likes of Mike Elizondo (50 Cent, Eminem), Klas Ahlund (Robyn, Katy Perry, Madonna), Stefan Graslund (Charli XCX), Kiko Merley (Allan Kingdom) and MAG (Flo Rida’s “My House), Surf the Web is an endlessly replayable, detail-rich effort from one of music’s bright young talents.
“Surf The Web is inspired by L.A.,” explains Daye Jack. “You’re getting the job done, but you’re doing it in a chill way—remaining clear and concise. The sonics were really inspired by early aughts classics likeJustified and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. I got really clear-headed in Los Angeles, and I wanted to make music you could listen to forever.”
