The Song:
It might seem random of Kylie Jenner to Snapchat herself singing along to Baeza’s single, “Living It Up” but Baeza’s been quietly building a dedicated fanbase for a few years now. Armed with multiple videos with over a million plays (the highest being “Far From Ready” with almost 8M views) on YouTube and a feature on Baby Bash’s recent radio smash (#25 Urban Song) “Certified Freak,” the rising rapper is taking hold of the spotlight and will release his debut album, The Man, this Friday, July 31st.
Today he’s releasing his single with Bay Area legend E-40 entitled, “Striktly Business.” “Nothing is better than introducing new talent with the help of a legend,” said Mass Appeal who premiered the song. “The track’s name is inspired by Baeza’s clothing line of the same name, and finds the 22-year-old rapper speaking on his status in his area. Basically, he’s saying he’s the shit, and based on his following, it seems there are plenty of folks who’d agree.” Strings buzz with the pulsating bassline that pans behind 808 slaps as Baeza boasts about being the talk of the town, exemplifying his status as a modern day casanova, a claim that is supported by a social following of more than 100K on IG, 160K on Facebook, and 60K on Twitter.
“A lot has changed since I started rapping,” says Baeza. “My lyrics are different, my music is different, even my voice is different. I was 18 then, I’m 22 now and I named my album The Man to reflect all those changes.” Baeza is currently signed to Empire Distribution. In Sept. 2014, he released “Roll With Me” featuring Clyde Carson, which was later included on his second EP, also titled The Man, which came out independently via Baeza Music in August ’14. He has shared stages with Roach Gigz on the California Nights Tour in the fall of ’14, and he also collaborated with Baby Bash on a video for “Certified Freaks.” Baeza was a featured artist on “Like That” by DJ ASAP, which was included on Noisey’s On the Roof Vol. 1 mix in October of last year.
