Video: AD x Sorry Jaynari – “#CripLivesMatter” ft. G Perico

The Two LA Figures Offer a Word of Caution in the Claustrophobic, Rowdy, XXL-Premiered Video

3.31.2017

 Critical Praise:

“Chunky street-level grit vibing through ratchet beats, squiggly synths and aggro spitfire”Red Bull

He can rap in double-time, and he can deliver an absolute monster hook when he wants to. Mostly, though, he just wants to run through walls like a juggernaut. And when you’re listening to him, you get the feeling that you can do the same thing…the next time you’re trying to pull the roof off a Hyundai Excel with your teeth, you’re going to want some music like this in your life.” – Stereogum

The Video:

With aggressive, rhythmic hooks and an impossibly high energy level, AD is a rising star on the L.A. gangsta rap scene. His considerable talents level up when paired with the production of Sorry Jaynari, a member of the League of Starz production collective and a master at evoking classic West Coast music with rich and textured productions. On his latest video single, AD stands up for the people on the Westside with a powerful message: “#CripLivesMatter.” Featuring a guest verse from the acclaimed rapper G Perico, “#CripLivesMatter” is a cautionary tale for those who are not cut out for the gangster life and a screed against the discriminatory cops of the LAPD. Premiered today by XXL, the clip for “#CripLivesMatter” is a rowdy affair, with many tight close-ups on AD and his cohorts, as they dance, mob, and crip walk in front of projections of scenes from the hood. “#CripLivesMatter” follows the OT Genasis-featuring “Basic” as the latest single from The Last of the ’80s, the upcoming collection of West Coast bangers from AD and Sorry Jaynari.

Born in Compton and raised by his grandmother, AD cultivated a massive fan base in his home state, garnering radio play on L.A. rap station KPWR for his hit single “Juice.” AD garnered critical acclaim for his mixtape Blue:89, a gangster rap epic with party jams and social commentary. A member of the League of Starz production collective, Sorry Jaynari is a mainstay on West Coast Radio, producing hits for Problem (“Like Whaat“), The Game (“T.H.O.T.“), and Eric Bellinger (“I Don’t Want Her“). AD and Sorry Jaynari previously collaborated on last year’s acclaimed By Any Means, which Stereogum called “a ridiculously solid tape, all fiery defiance and old-school California rap sonics.” On Last of the ’80s, AD and Sorry Jaynari refine their formula, digging in deeper to AD’s personal life while expanding their sonic palette to include West Coast bangers of every stripe.

Featuring appearances from Wiz Khalifa, Tory Lanez, OT Genasis, Kid Ink, Eric Bellinger, G Perico, and Kool John, The Last of the ’80s is a stellar blend of Los Angeles gangsta rap meets club bangers, with rhythmic hooks and pristine instrumentals. It’s a true collaboration, a continuation of the great West Coast rapper/producer lineage that includes Snoop & Dre, DJ Quik & Suga Free, and DJ Slip & MC Eiht. A fast-paced, energetic song collection perfect for the whip, the gym, or the club, The Last Of The ’80s releases on April 28th.
