The Video:
Tez McClain, for the most part, was a laid-back and reserved rapper on his previous releases. However, his most recent EP release, Scoundrel, saw him take his music in a whole new direction. From start to finish Scoundrel is incisive and hard-hitting, a no-holds-barred release that finds Tez at his rowdiest, all without sacrificing the artistry and craft that sets him apart from the pack. Today, Tez has released the latest video, "Change," which features Tez' close friend and fellow emcee Erk Tha Jerk. The video, directed by Raw Work Films, premiered today by HotNewHipHop.
"This ni**a I was cool with/ Put him on some things/ But he started acting strange when he got a piece of change," raps Tez, using the song to examine the old adage of how money can change a person. While the song is stern and serious, the video, shot on Hollywood Boulevard, was more spur-of-the-moment, shot when Tez was in Los Angeles working on the video for his recent 106th & Park-debuted "Flick'n" video. "I saw the Bane character on the strip," says Tez, referring to the classic DC Comics character. "I told my videographer, "We have to shoot this video here.' It was a perfect fit, because I refer to Bane in my verse on the song."
