Background:
With the Rock on his back and a Razorbacks fitted cocked just so on his dome,
Little Rock, Arkansas, rapper
SL Jones first hit the scene as part of
Killer Mike's Grind Time Rap Gang, releasing his now-classic
C.O.L.O.R.S. (Bangin' On Wax) mixtape. It wasn't long after that SL knew he had to strike out on his own, and beginning in 2011 he did just that, starting with the release of
The Number 23, hosted by
Don Cannon. Closing out 2011, SL Jones released his
Flight Risk mixtape, and together, the two mixtapes garnered strong reviews from
XXL Magazine and Atlanta's leading alternative weekly,
Creative Loafing, while earning the young gunner accolades from
FADER, Complex, The Source, HipHopDX, The Smoking Section, Nah Right, RCRD LBL, Dirty Glove Bastard, and more, including a sit down with
MTV News' Mixtape Daily and a nationally televised "
On Deck" feature with
MTV2's Sucker Free. In 2012, SL Jones released
Paraphernalia, a collaborative effort with producer
DJ Burn One that included features from
Freddie Gibbs, Rittz, and more. To start 2013, SL Jones released a new EP,
Trapper's Delight, produced by
M16 and hosted by
Hoodrich/Grand Hustle's DJ MLK, which is out now via
LiveMixtapes.
