After releasing The REBEL EP earlier this year, Full |REBEL| Jacket have stayed plenty busy, popping up on local Phoenix radio, releasing a string of videos, and more, and now, with new visuals on the way, and a new EP planned for early 2013, the duo is releasing the latest single from The REBEL EP, "G.R.I.T.S." The REBEL EP, throughout, features some strong names (Big Rube, BJ The Chicago Kid, Nikkiya), and "G.R.I.T.S." continues that tradition, with a guest verse from Houston mainstay Chalie Boy.
Built on a laid back, southern fried beat, G and Q deliver an ode to southern women, flipping the "G.R.I.T.S." acronym to mean "Girls Raised In The South." "We wanted to create an anthem for southern women, with a little southern flavor" says G. "Something they could be proud of when they hear it." Chalie Boy pops up on the track's chorus, his smooth vocals tying everything together. "Chalie Boy delivered the hook in a way that only he could," says Q. "He really made the song feel like a dedication, which is what the song needed."

Like Big Boi and André 3000, Pimp C and Bun B, Full |REBEL| Jacket is proof that when it comes to hip-hop, opposites attract. Formed in 2009 after a parking lot freestyle revealed that the two differing-skilled rappers had a chemistry, the duo of G, a Dallas, Texas native and rhyme partner Q, an Alaskan transplant, released their first two mixtapes under the name American Negro before reconfiguring themselves as Full |REBEL| Jacket during the making of their 2010 Loose Leaf series, a weekly installment of recorded freestyles the two compiled into a release. Packed with a moniker that fit the duo's mysterious aesthetic and inventive voice, Full |REBEL| Jacket began work on this year's theREBEL EP, the first project to find G and Q contributing their own beats and instrumentation to each track, and the result is Full |REBEL| Jacket's most concise and powerful project yet. The free EP, which includes features from Big Rube, BJ The Chicago Kid, Nikkiya, Chalie Boy, and more, is out now.
