The Song: On September 3rd, Full \|REBEL\| Jacket will release their new free EP, the REBEL EP. The self-produced effort will be the first official release since rappers G and Q, who call Phoenix home but hail from Dallas and Anchorage Alaska, respectively, joined forces, and already, the pair has released a string of well received singles, including "Stray Bullet" and "Purple Lights." The former features Dungeon Family legend Big Rube, while the latter features recent Motown Records signee B.J The Chicago Kid, and today, Full \|REBEL\| Jacket keep the impressive list of guests rolling with new single "Higher," which features southern singer – and longtime Yelawolf affiliate – Nikkiya. "Higher" is easily the jazziest of the tracks on the REBEL EP, and the relaxed instrumental lays the foundation for the song, as Nikkiya opens things up soulfully, singing, "Fly/ Don't just fall/ Reach for the sky/ It's worth the fight/ And from the sky, it all looks right." It's those words that set the tone for the song, which finds Full \|REBEL\| Jacket at their most aspirational. The Background: Like Big Boi and André 3000, Pimp C and Bun B, Full \|REBEL\| Jacket is proof that when it comes to hip-hop, opposites attract. Formed in 2009 after a parking lot freestyle revealed that the two differing-skilled rappers had a chemistry, the duo of G, a Dallas, Texas native and rhyme partner Q, an Alaskan transplant, released their first two mixtapes under the name American Negro before reconfiguring themselves as Full \|REBEL\| Jacket during the making of their 2010 Loose Leaf series, a weekly installment of recorded freestyles the two compiled into a release. Packed with a moniker that fit the duo's mysterious aesthetic and inventive voice, Full \|REBEL\| Jacket began work on this year's the REBEL EP, the first project to find G and Q contributing their own beats and instrumentation to each track, and the result is Full \|REBEL\| Jacket's most concise and powerful project yet.
