The MP3:
As M.I. and DJ Cutt ready the release of their forthcoming LP, Diamond, the duo known as Constant Deviants, continue to deliver on their promise of non-album singles with their latest single, "Skyscraper." On this track, DJ Cutt hands off production duties to Australian producer Debonair P, who laces the track with mellow acoustic guitar riffs, complemented by a perfectly dusty drum break. This song, along with a collection of others produced by Debonair P, will be released on a 12" effort titled The Allnighter EP in mid-March.
Although, fans may feel odd about hearing a Constant Deviants track not produced by DJ Cutt, they need not worry; the Baltimore/Brooklyn duo has been building with the Debonair for years now. "We've been building a relationship with him since we first started selling vinyl in '09," explains M.I. "He's a dope producer and definitely has a lock on the '90's sound."
The song title, "Skyscraper," and song concept came from the vibe that M.I. caught listening to the beat. "I just had the feeling of being on top a skyscraper," says M.I., "overlooking the confusion going on in the city." And while the casual listener might assume that feeling would lead to a serene track, "Skyscraper," as with all of Constant Deviants' music requires a closer listen. "Even at the top, you're still part of the chaos around you," M.I. remarks, and drives that sentiment home throughout the track with lines like, "Bodymore, Murdaland, man we got this/ Pop, pop, bang, bang/ Shoot em up mobsters/ Cops 'n robbers/ .45s, Glocks and choppers.”

The
Background:
In the world of hip-hop, a name carries the weight of an entire career. It's the brand, the logo, but most importantly the mission of the group. For Constant Deviants, it's a title that has grown with them over time: constantly changing, departing from the norm. Forming their own imprint SIX2SIX Records in 2009, the group consists of the traditional MC and DJ combination with M.I. (Mr. Impossible) on the microphone and D.J. CUTT behind the tables and beats. With their sights currrently set on the 2012 release of their newest project Diamond, the Deviants are preparing fans for the unheralded return of real rap music with the album's precursor, entitled Platinum: The Mixtape, available now for free download via Bandcamp.
