The Video:
Late last month, Baltimore-Brooklyn duo Constant Deviants released a free album stream for their forthcoming LP, Diamond. The project, which will receive a retail release in late-January, is easily some of Constant Deviants' most cohesive, accomplished work to date, with rapper M.I. and producer DJ Cutt, hitting full groove together in a way that can only be accomplished after years of back-and-forth collaboration. One particular standout from the album is lead single "Gangster Boogie," and now, Constant Deviants are releasing the official music video for the song.
The video, directed by J. Powell, and premiered today by Potholes In My Blog, gives, what M.I. calls a "fresh look to a classic style video." Shot in the downtown area of Baltimore, the video captures M.I., decked out in a Run DMC t-shirt, as he makes his way around the neighborhood, street-lit nighttime shots juxtaposed coolly against the natural colors of the city. "The single is more about a feeling than a message," he says, "so with the video, we wanted to approach it that same way, to do something very colorful."

The
Background:
In the world of hip-hop, a name carries the weight of an entire career. It's the brand, the logo, but most importantly the mission of the group. For Constant Deviants, it's a title that has grown with them over time: constantly changing, departing from the norm. Forming their own imprint SIX2SIX Records in 2009, the group consists of the traditional MC and DJ combination with M.I. (Mr. Impossible) on the microphone and D.J. CUTT behind the tables and beats. With their sights currrently set on the 2012 release of their newest project Diamond, the Deviants are preparing fans for the unheralded return of real rap music with the album's precursor, entitled Platinum: The Mixtape, available now for free download via Bandcamp.
