"ADd+ admit that they're not stars, but they probably should be. This is the sound of two dudes rapping for people to take notice. And you should." - Jeff Weiss
The Song:
On March 26th, Dallas duo A.Dd+, comprised of rappers Paris Pershun and Slim Gravy, will release their sophomore album, DiveHiFlyLo and today. The album finds Paris and Slim once again uniting with producer Picnictyme, who produced all of their 2011 breakout album, When Pigs Fly, and joining Picnic behind the boards will be Kuddie Fresh, Stompboxx, Fly Life Productions, and more. Today, to celebrate the announcement, A.Dd+ is releasing the album's newest single, "+ (Plus Sign Silent)."
Back in 2011, when A.Dd+ first released When Pigs Fly, Slim and Paris were still a wet-behind-the-ears duo, largely unproven and still trying to find their footing. That album was hailed by outlets was hailed by outlets like Pitchfork and SPIN, and two years later – having opened for Black Milk on a 30-date national tour later; having headlined a Red Bull-sponsored regional tour; having won Best Group and Best Rap Act at the 2012 Dallas Observer Music Awards; having just recently sold-out the legendary, 800-capacity Grenada Theater in Dallas – A.Dd+ is no longer still just trying to make their way; with DiveHiFlyLo, A.Dd+ is poised for much more.
Over the past 18 months, as A.Dd+ has racked up accomplishments, the duo has also grown, and it was important for Slim and Paris to display that growth with DiveHiFlyLo. “We just wanted to showcase our versatility on When Pigs Fly," recalls Paris, "but we didn’t really share our message or get personal. DiveHiFlyLo is darker, but still creative – it lets listeners hear what's really going on in our heads." That thematic direction is also reflected in the album's title, a term that Paris came up with some years back while writing a verse for the duo's first tape. "It represents shooting for the moon while staying grounded," explains Slim. "Be a king, and reside with the peasants."
Those sentiments and ideals resonate throughout the 12-track effort, with songs like album opener "…And Beyond," which focuses on A.Dd+'s outlook on the world, and "Comes And Goes," which features one of the album's few guests, J. Pinder, and deals with the struggle of not only achieving a goal but maintaining that success. And then there's "+ (Plus Sign Silent)," the album's newest single, produced by Stompboxx, which shows that, despite the maturity, the guys haven't forgotten how to have a good time, while at the same time exploring their current status in rap. "It's a symbolic representation for us being better than the competition," says the duo of the unpronounced plus-sign attached to their name. "We're always bringing something fresh and new, and this song describes that perfectly."

The Background:
Quirky yet streetwise, fun-loving yet dead serious, A.Dd+, the duo of Paris Pershun and Slim Gravy, may just be leading Dallas towards a rap renaissance. In 2009, A.Dd+ released their debut mixtape, Power of the Tongue, a project that earned them regional acclaim and a "Best Rap Act" nomination from local alternative weekly the Dallas Observer, but it was in 2011, with the release of their official debut When Pigs Fly that the duo broke through. The LP was hailed as "the best hip-hop album Dallas has ever released," by the Dallas Observer, who also nominated the group for "Best Album" and "Best Rap Act" in their year-end Dallas Observer Music Awards. The project also earned A.Dd+ acclaim from national media outlets such as XXL Magazine and Pitchfork, with a coveted Chairman's Choice feature and inclusion in the "Best Of: Underrated Rap Releases of 2011" list, respectively. Pitchfork described the group as, "the spawn of UGK and Outkast, combining street and cerebral." 2012 already looks to be fruitful for the duo, who kicked off the year taking part in the Red Bull Skooled Tour, a seven-city run through the southwest alongside a collection of Texas legends and fellow up-and-comers. The duo recently finished their first North American tour, opening up for Black Milk's Claps And Slaps Tour, and are now focusing on their sophomore album, DiveHiFlyLo.
