The Video:
Next week, on November 20th, A-Wax will release his brand new mixtape, Pie-RX Muzik. The project, presented by premier hip-hop outlet Southern Hospitality, will include high profile collaborations and production from the likes of Iggy Azalea, YG Hootie, Jahlil Beats, Araab Muzik, Cardiak, and more.
Beyond those collaborations, though, Pie-Rx Muzik largely eschews the high-profile collaborations that became standard fare on A-Wax's previous mixtapes – Wax has collaborated with the likes of Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame, French Montana, and more - and, instead, is all about showcasing both A-Wax's talents as a solo artist and the talents of the artists signed to Wax's own Pie-RX label imprint. Two of those artists, Killah L and Ice Meez, are featured on the latest single from Pie-RX Muzik, "Bail Money," for which A-Wax is releasing the mp3 and music video music video today.
The track is built around a haunting, beautiful sample, twisted and filtered atop fluid drums and deep bass, and the somber mood fits the song's vibe perfect, as Ice Meez opens the chrous rapping, "I got bail money, bail money/ Get me out of jail money/ Call the bitch/ Pay the bondsman... They take me down to county/ I make my one call/ Before you know, I'm right back out to fuck shit up for y'all."
A-Wax takes the track's second verse, his relaxed flow and slick rhyme patterns falling seamlessly into the beat, as he raps, "I got dough again; paper long/ Never think, just pay the bond...Needing this is what made it right/ Liking this – what made it wrong." The video, directed by Sigmond IV Multimedia, brings the track to life, following a day-in-the-life of Killah L (who raps the song's first verse) as he deals with the headache of his legal situation, lawyer and all.

The
Background:
A lot of rappers make music about the penitentiary. Few can say that they learned their craft while incarcerated. Having emerged after a lengthy stretch in the prison system during his teenage years, A-Wax turned to rap and came up in the game old-fashioned way, selling CDs hand-to-hand and through Mom & Pop stores across the region. The hard work has paid off -- A-Wax has moved over 200,000 units, independently, no small feat, and the accomplishment eventually led to a deal with Akon's Konvict Muzik label. A-Wax and Akon ultimately went their seperate ways, due to creative differences, and now A-Wax is back on the independent grind, with a new album, Everybody Loves Me: Chapter 1. The album, which includes features from French Montana, Styles P., Mistah FAB, and more, is out today, July 17th, via Illburn Records.
