Jesus Malverde Album To Be Released February 26; Lead Single Features Waka, Ca$his
The Song:
On February 26thA-Wax will release his new album, Jesus Malverde, via his new label, Pie-Rx Recordz, and in collaboration with Illburn Records. Last week, A-Wax announced the album, coinciding with the release of his video for album cut "The Shooter, " and today, A-Wax is back with the first official single from Jesus Malverde. The song, "Work," features Waka Flocka Flame and Ca$his and is produced by Southside.
While A-Wax first came into the game under Akon, as part of his Konvict Muzik record label, as A-Wax has pursued an independent career over the past years, he's formed strong bonds with 1017/Bricksquad, and "Work" is a perfect example of the strong relationship that has developed between the two entities. "I actually linked up with Waka, who is from my neighborhood, Elm Street Piru, and he showed me a lot of love," recalls A-Wax. "Coincidentally, Southside also happens to be from Elm, so it was all a very natural process." Ca$his, who, says Wax, shares Wax's and Waka's dopeboy mentality, completes the track with a verse of his own.
Jesus Malverde is the patron saint of thieves and drug dealers, and so, for A-Wax, it was important, in creating the album, to deliver a collection of music that fits that theme. Lead single "Work," then is something of a mission statement for the project. "We put in 'work' in the street; we buy and sell 'work';"explains A-Wax of the track. "'Work' is what will get us to where we want to be, wherever that is. No matter what you do for a living, or what your social or economic background, 'work' is in the equation to be successful."

The
Background:
A lot of rappers make music about the penitentiary. Few can say that they learned their craft while incarcerated. Having emerged after a lengthy stretch in the prison system during his teenage years, A-Wax turned to rap and came up in the game old-fashioned way, selling CDs hand-to-hand and through Mom & Pop stores across the region. The hard work has paid off -- A-Wax has moved over 200,000 units, independently, no small feat, and the accomplishment eventually led to a deal with Akon's Konvict Muzik label. A-Wax and Akon ultimately went their seperate ways, due to creative differences, and now A-Wax is back on the independent grind. In 2012, A-Wax released Everybody Loves Me: Chapter 1., with features from French Montana, Styles P., Mistah FAB, and more. He followed that with the announcement of his new label, Pie-Rx Recordz. and the release of his Pie-Rx Muzik mixtape. Now, A-Wax is prepping the release of his latest album, Jesus Malverde, which includes features from Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame, Cashis, and YG Hootie, and will be released Feburary 26, 2013.
